Institute

Locations, profile, figures, structure

The Institute belongs to the Faculty of Energy-, Process- and Bio-Engineering of the University of Stuttgart (Faculty 4).

In 2019, the research budget accounted for 2.46 million euros. At the end of that year, staff of 60 scientific, technical and administrative employees, among them 22 doctoral students, worked at the three IGVP facilities – along with 43 other students researching for their master or bachelor thesis.

The institute is located at three sites and uses laboratories and facilities:

  • at Pfaffenwaldring 31 (4th floor)
  • at Stuttgart University’s multipurpose branch at Allmandring 5b,
  • at the Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology IGB, Nobelstrasse 12.

The close cooperation with the various Fraunhofer IGB groups facilitates a continuity of IGVP projects from basic research to application, in the form of research funding received from the German Research Foundation (DFG), the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the German Federal Foundation for the Environment (DBU), the European Union, the Land of Baden-Württemberg, various other foundations and industry. At the IGVP we combine fundamental academic research with application-oriented approaches by incorporating ideas and impulses from the practice.

Key partners also include the Max-Planck-Institut für Plasmaphysik in Garching and Greifswald, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology KIT, and the Dutch Institute for Fundamental Energy Research DIFFER in the Netherlands.
