History

Brief historical outline

From January 2013 on, the name of our institute is “Institute of Interfacial Process Engineering and Plasma Technology IGVP”. The IGVP consists of six groups in all, each of which is led by a group manager.

In July 2012, Prof. Thomas Hirth, Full Professor at the Institute for Interfacial Engineering IGVT, took over as provisional director of the IPF. With effect as of January 9, 2013, by decision of the Senate and the University Council of the University of Stuttgart, the IPF was integrated into the IGVT and the joint Institute of Interfacial Process Engineering and Plasma Technology IGVP has become part of Faculty 4 (Energy, Process Engineering and Biotechnology) at the University of Stuttgart.

With the integration of the IPF in the IGVT the scientific basis of plasma physics has been rounded off and combined with plasma chemistry and plasma process engineering. For the most part, there will be a continuation of the work areas of the IGVT and the IPF; the technological aspects of the scientific work on plasmas will be pursued with renewed strength. The intensive cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) in Garching will also be continued.
